Shoulder Hooping

The incredible Laura Aszman from Beauty In Movement (USA) leads the Shoulder Hooping part of the course. Whether you’ve been shoulder hooping for years or haven’t a clue where to begin, this masterclass is for you. Dive deep into your shoulder hooping practise, find your fluidity and flow.

Working from the ground up, this course begins with foundational movements and gradually builds into more – think tracing, shoulder duck-outs and graceful, easeful flow. Laura will guide you to get your shoulder hooping buttery smooth in both currents. Teaching shoulder hooping is Laura’s specialty and her approach to facilitating movement is an experience in itself.

Ninja Breaks

Haiiiiiya! It’s time to get your ninja on. Whether you’re just starting out or have some breaks patterns and combos under your belt, this course is going to break you out of your comfort zone, break it all down and make sure you have a BREAK THROUGH! We look at technique and foundations and a whole lotta BREAKS!

Explore a variety of inside and outside, single and double hand shoulder breaks and paddles, leg breaks, elbow breaks, continuous breaks, breaks patterns and combos. You get the idea. Learn a lotta breaks!!

What to expect from downloadable class videos

This is a video recording of a live masterclass series that was taught in-person and streamed live via Zoom.

What You’ll Need

  • Hoops!  A larger, heavier hoop for shoulder hooping and a lighter, bouncier hoop for breaks. If you don’t have one already, add a hoop to this order
  • Hoop space
  • Playfulness, water bottle and comfy clothes.

About the Instructors

Laura Aszman is from Portland, Oregon and has been teaching hoop dance for a decade. Her dance-focused style embraces sensuality, flow and grace. Laura’s joyful approach to teaching encourages her students to listen and respond to not only music, but to their state of mind and individual bodies; to inspire a unique, liberating improvisational flow state.
Laura has studied under the pioneers of contemporary hoop dance including Anah “Hoopalicious” Reichenbach and Brecken Rivara and further developed her unique meditative approach under Jonathan Livingston Baxter.
Most of her life dancing made her feel vulnerable and awkward. Once she began exploring movement with the hoop, a deeper connection to her body naturally unfolded. The hoop has been by far Laura’s best dance teacher. It is her movement meditation, her passion and life practice.

Donna Sparx is a professional hula hoop dancer who is passionate about bringing the dance into the hoop and sharing the freedom found in play and flow. Recognised globally for her creativity, innovation, flow facilitation and playful approach, she has shared the hoopla with thousands of people aged 2 to 72! Donna’s superpower is breaking down the trickiest, techiest moves and making them accessible for everyone! Donna has performed with the Women’s Circus and at many festivals and events. She brings a passion and playfulness to her work that is infectious.
